Durdle Door Photography. Durdle Door is located in Dorset on The South Coast of England. Click Here For A Google Maps View . It takes the form of 2 bays with a headland forming a “T” shape, on one side is an arch that has been eroded from the cliff by the elements, Durdle Door.  ‘Durdle’ is derived from the Old English ‘thirl’, meaning to pierce.

I drove to Durdle Door hoping for a nice sunset which wasn’t to be on this occasion however, I was rewarded with some unusual clouds.

The shot was setup on the cliff looking South West towards Weymouth and Portland.

The camera was setup on a tripod with a cable release.

Image Details:

  • Nikon D800.
  • File Type: RAW.
  • ISO: 50,
  • White Balance: Cloudy
  • Aperture: F22,
  • Shutter: 0.6 Sec.

Long Exposure

The shots below were taken using a Neutral Density Filter. The Exposure was about 2 minutes.

The streaking cloud effect has been caused by the long exposure and the movement in the clouds. Although the sea was not rough the long exposure has given it a shiny mirror type effect.
